The Uganda gorilla trekking permit varies by price and allocation is done in the categories of foreign nonresident (FNR), Foreign Resident (FR), and East African Residents.

The price of a single gorilla trekking permit is allocated by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and each intending trekker must make full payment and receive a gorilla permit either individually or through the Uganda tour operator to trek gorillas in Uganda.

Foreign Residents here refer to tourists who are not Ugandans and are from other countries just for the purpose of Uganda gorilla safaris.
Foreign residents refer to foreigners who live in Uganda and have a working permit or any other identification as residents of Uganda.
East African citizens here refer to the people of the East African community of which Uganda is part.

2019-2020 Cost for Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

As of 2019, foreign non-residents require US$ 600 for each gorilla permit in Uganda.

Foreign residents require US$ 500 for each gorilla permit in Uganda. East African residents require UGX 250,000 for a single gorilla permit.

Effective 1st July 2020, foreign non-residents will require US$ 700 to purchase an Uganda gorilla permit.

Foreign residents will require US$ 600 to buy an Uganda gorilla permit. East African Residents will still be able to purchase a gorilla permit.

Each permit is valid for individuals above 15 years of age and can be used for a single trek. A maximum of 1 hour is allowed for trekkers to be in the presence of the Mountain Gorillas.
