Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport & transfer to Volcanoes National Park 

Arrive at Rwanda’s Kigali International Airport. Upon arrival, your safari guide will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to Volcanoes National Park where your first adventure of this 6 Days Rwanda safari awaits. The journey from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park is only 2 hours – driving through the beautiful countryside. Arrive at Volcaneos National Park and proceed to your booked safari lodge. Check in at the lodge and relax. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park 

Start your day early in the morning with a sumptuous breakfast and then head to the park headquarters for mountain gorilla trekking. At the park headquarters, you’ll be joined by other visitors for a briefing session. After the briefing, you’ll be put into small groups of about 8 members each, and then each group will be allocated a gorilla family to trek. After allocation, follow the lead of your ranger guide, grab your trekking stick and embark on a gorilla trekking safari in Volcanoes National Park.

The trek can last anywhere between 30 minutes to 6 hours, depending on the location of your gorilla family. After trekking for a while, you’ll finally locate these gentle primates and enjoy up to one full hour observing them as they go by their day. After the allocated time elapses, trek back to the visitors center. Your guide will then take you back to the lodge. Enjoy a refreshing meal and a short rest. After lunch, go for a cultural experience. After the cultural experience, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Drive to Akagera National Park

Enjoy breakfast at your lodge and check out. Drive to Akagera National Park where your next adventure awaits. This journey is a 5 hour journey that takes you through the scenic Rwanda. You’ll witness the country’s rolling hills, gentle slope,s and lush greenery on your journey. Arrive in Akagera National Park and proceed to your booked safari lodge. Check in at the lodge and spend the rest of your day relaxing. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 4: Full Day game viewing in Akagera National Park 

Start your day with a sunrise game drive in Akagera National Park, searching for the wildlife. Although Akagera National Park does not stand a chance when it comes to wildlife numbers as compared to top African wildlife viewing destinations like Masai Mara in Kenya, Serengeti, & Ngorongoro in Tanzania – Akagera National Park is still a great wildlife viewing destination hosting the African Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, and elephant) and several other wildlife species. During your game drive, you’ll encounter different species.

Return to the lodge and enjoy breakfast and a rest. After lunch, enjoy another game drive in the park. After the afternoon gam drive, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer from Akagera National Park to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Morning games drive for a close encounter with animals such as zebras, several antelope species, and giraffes. Later, drive out of the park, stopping for lunch at Kigali town and continuing to Nyungwe Forest National Park.  Arrive in Nyungwe and proceed to your booked safari lodge. Check in for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Chimpanzee tracking & transfer to Kigali 

Today, wake up very early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast, embark on a chimpanzee trekking adventure in  Nyungwe forest national park.  Chimpanzee tracking in the forest is a reading experience. Head to the park head quarters for a briefing session. After briefing, follow the ranger guide into the forest to search for the primates, after allocating them, you’ll spend about one hour observing them. After the allocated time elapses, return to the starting point.

Besides chimpanzees, this forest boasts many primate species like black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, wild chimpanzees, and many others. After the trek, return to the lodge. Refresh, have lunch, and check out of the lodge. Embark on your journey to Kigali. You’ll arrive in Kigali in the evening. From Kigali, your driver guide will drop you at your preferred dropoff point ( hotel or Airport).
