Detailed 8 Days Uganda Primates and Kenya Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale National Park

From Kampala or Entebbe, your driver guide will pick you up early in the morning to start your safari to Kibale National Park. This long journey through the scenic countryside takes you through some popular towns like Mityana, and Kyejonjo. Enjoy your drive up to Fort Portal town, the capital of the Tooro kingdom, situated in the shadow of the fabled “Mountains of the Moon,” the Rwenzori. From here, you will proceed with your drive to Kibale National Park. Arrive at the park and proceed to your booked safari lodge.

Lunch will be served at your lodge. You will either have lunch on your way or at the lodge. After lunch, you can visit the Bigodi wetland sanctuary or just relax at your lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking at Kibale National Park

After an early morning breakfast, head to the park headquarters where you will join groups of other trekkers. You will then be briefed about the Do’s and Don’ts of chimpanzee tracking. After the session, you will follow the lead of your ranger guide and indulge deep in the forest to search for the elusive chimpanzees. The tracking will start early and takes about two to three hours, depending on the location of the chimps. After a long trek in the forest, you will finally locate the primates and enjoy an exclusive 1 hour in their presence. Enjoy watching them go by their day. You will have plenty of opportunities to film and take photos of these primates in the wild.

After your time with the chimps is done, trek back to the starting point where you will meet your guide who then transfers you back to your lodge for a refreshing meal and relaxation.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early morning breakfast at your lodge, embark on a transfer to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – home to the endangered mountain gorilla. Drive through the scenic countryside as you head to Bwindi. Arrive at Bwindi in the afternoon and proceed to your booked safari lodge.

Check-in at the lodge. Spend the rest of your afternoon relaxing at the lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Today after breakfast at the lodge, depart your lodge and head to the park headquarters for your remarkable gorilla trekking adventure. At the park headquarters, you will join other groups of trekkers for a briefing session about gorilla trekking. You will then be divided into small groups of 8 members and allocated gorilla groups to trek.

After all is done, embark on your gorilla trekking adventure in the impenetrable forest of Bwindi. The trek will take you through challenging terrain and thick vegetation as you witness the biodiversity in the forest. After along trek in the forest, you will locate the gorillas and spend your allocated one hour with them. After your allocated time with the gorillas, return to the visitors center where you will receive your certificate. Transfer back to your lodge for a refreshing meal and rest.

In the afternoon, there is an optional visit to the Batwa community for a cultural experience.

Day 5: Transfer back to Entebbe

After an early morning breakfast, depart your lodge in Bwindi and start your journey back to Entebbe. The drive will take you about 8 to 9 hours, arriving in Entebbe in the evening. At Entebbe, you will be driven to your booked hotel where you will spend the rest of your day.

Day 6: Fly to Kenya and transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve

Today after breakfast, depart your lodge and drive to Entebbe International Airport to catch your flight to Kenya. Arrive at Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport from where your Kenya safari guide will pick you up and transfer you to Masai Mara National Reserve.

Drive through the floor of the rift valley where you can have a stop for spectacular views. Later proceed with your drive to Masai Mara National Reserve, arriving in the evening. Arrive at Masai Mara and proceed to your booked lodge of safari camp.

Arrive at your lodge and check in.

Dinner and overnight at Aa Lodge Mara.

Day 7: Full day adventure in Masai Mara National Reserve

Today, you will explore the world renowned Masai Mara National Reserve, home to the spectacular wildebeest migration and the African Big Five animals. Start your day early in the morning with an early morning game drive through the vast wilderness teeming with lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, buffalo, leopard, many kinds of antelopes and elephant.

Enjoy wildlife watching in the Mara, and visiting different wildlife hotspots within the reserve. As it nears time for lunch, start your drive back to the lodge. Arrive at the lodge and enjoy a hot lunch. After lunch and a short rest, embark on a cultural tour of the nearby Masai communities. Enjoy this opportunity to learn more about their culture, and way of life and have fun interacting with the locals.

As your day draws to a close, return to your booked safari lodge for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.
