While Serengeti National Park safaris offer a range of options that suit various budgets and preferences, there are a number of factors that influence the final price of a Serengeti safari. Serengeti offers economical adventure, mid-range budget packages, and luxury safaris from which you can suit the one that suits you best depending on your budget preference. The following factors discussed below greatly influence the final price of a Serengeti Safari.

  1. Accommodation Type

While planning a safari to Tanzania Serengeti National Park, one of the must consider is where to stay during safari. Usually, your choice of accommodation influences the final cost of your Serengeti safari. There are several accommodation options in Serengeti National Park, catering to any kind of budget. Among the accommodations in Serengeti are; adventure budget camping, mid-range tented camps, and the high-end luxurious safari lodges. Depending on the level of comfort you crave, the accommodation facilities have different prices.

It is also important to know that besides the type of accommodation you choose, your accommodation price is also determined by the number of days you plan on staying and the season of travel (during the peak season from July to October the prices are higher). On average, a luxurious Tented Camp such as And Beyond Klein’s Camp or Nawiri Plains will cost roughly US$ 300 or more per person/night during the low season and about US$ 600+ more per person per night during the high season.

For those traveling on a mid-range package, mid-rage accommodation like Serengeti Serena Lodge costs roughly US$ 150 per person per night during low season and US$ 300 per person per night during peak season.

  1. Transport costs

When planning a safari to Serengeti National Park, transport is another factor that greatly influences the cost of safari. The most common and affordable means of transport is by road. Those with less time and who would love to make the most of their safari can consider flying between destinations. Several reliable local airlines offer daily scheduled flights to Serengeti from Arusha Airport, including Auric Air, and Coastal Aviation n among others. The flight from Arusha to Serengeti is usually one hour though sometimes it depends on how many interim stops the flight will make, (known as ”hops”) as they land to drop or pick up passengers from various airstrips.

From Arusha to Serengeti National Park, a one-way flight costs about US$ 200 – 250 per person while a return flight will anywhere between US$ 300 to US$ 450 per person including taxes.

Most travelers in Tanzania however prefer using ground transfers by car on customized 4×4 safari vehicles. These safari vehicles are customized with pop-up game viewing roofs the addition of UHF radio calls and suitable seating and interior. Most of the safari vehicles have air conditioning and electric cooler boxes. Hiring a customized Landcruiser safari vehicle costs from US$ 250 to 275 per vehicle/day depending on the season of the year.

  1. Number of People Traveling (Group Size)

The numbers always influence the overall cost of a safari to Serengeti National Park. When traveling in a large group, the cost of a safari is usually shared among the group members making the cost per person low. On the other hand, people who are traveling in a small group or as solo travelers have a high cost per person hence making the final cost of safari high.

  1. Duration of the Safari

Normally, the longer the safari, the higher the cost, and the reverse is equally true. While planning your African safari to Serengeti National Park, one of the factors that will influence the final cost of your safari is the duration of your adventure. The minimum recommended time to spend in Serengeti National Park during safaris is 3 days for the best experience, however, some travelers may opt to spend only one or two days if they are visiting other top wildlife viewing destinations like Ngorongoro Crater.

The low season of safaris in Serengeti which lasts between April to early June also attracts low prices for safaris although these months are not the best for safaris in the park. If the duration of a safari is generally longer, it means you will stay for longer periods in safari accommodations, and need more for food, and transportation. You will also pay more park entry fees since you will be spending more time there. For those interested in witnessing the spectacular wildebeest migration, the best time to visit the park is between July to September.

  1. Season of travel

Serengeti National Park just like all other National Parks in Tanzania has two major seasons; the dry season (high season for safaris) and the rainy season (low season for safaris). Serengeti has two seasons; the longer dry season that extends from July to October and the shorter rainy season that starts from December to mid-February. The dry season is the best time for safaris in Serengeti National Park and also the best time to witness the natural spectacle, Wildebeest migration. Being the best season for a safari in the park, it is associated with high prices and low availability due to the many visitors that come to the park for adventures. If you have few days for safari, it is best recommended to visit Serengeti during the wet season when there is availability of rooms in most safari lodges and camps at much-reduced rates.

  1. Park Entry Fees

When planning a safari to Serengeti National Park, the one thing you should be aware of is the park entry fees. Just like most safari parks in Africa, you pay the Park Entry Fee in Serengeti which is determined by the residency status of the tourist visiting the park ie Citizen, Resident, and Non-resident.

If you are an international visitor, it is important to keep in know that proof of identification is required before entering the country and the park.
