Detailed 5 Days Uganda Wildlife & Gorilla Safari 

Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park & Afternoon Nature Walk

Your safari begins in the morning with a pick-up from Kampala or Entebbe by our professional driver-guide. After a short briefing about the journey and the experiences ahead, you will begin your drive southwest towards Lake Mburo National Park.

The journey takes you through Uganda’s countryside, offering an opportunity to see the changing landscapes as you leave the busy urban environment behind. Along the way, you will pass through rural communities, agricultural areas and small trading centres, giving you an authentic glimpse into everyday life in Uganda.

Lake Mburo National Park is one of Uganda’s most accessible savannah parks and is well known for its zebra, impala, buffalo, eland and rich birdlife. Its landscape combines open grassland, acacia woodland, wetlands and lakes. After arriving at your booked accommodation, check in and have lunch. After lunch, proceed into the park for an afternoon adventure.

Embark on a guided nature walk through the park. Unlike a traditional game drive, the walking experience allows you to experience the wilderness at a slower pace and appreciate the smaller details of the ecosystem. Accompanied by a trained ranger/guide, you will walk through areas where you may encounter zebras, impalas, warthogs, buffaloes, and various antelope species, while your guide explains animal tracks, plants, insects, birds, and other signs of wildlife.

Lake Mburo is one of Uganda’s destinations where visitors can experience wildlife on foot. The walk also provides excellent opportunities for photography and birdwatching. As the afternoon progresses, the light becomes softer, and the surrounding savannah takes on a beautiful golden appearance.

Return to the lodge in the early evening for dinner and relaxation.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Wake up early and enjoy breakfast before setting out for your morning game drive in Lake Mburo National Park. The early morning is a rewarding time to explore the park, when wildlife is active and temperatures are cooler. Your guide will drive you through some popular wildlife viewing hotspots within the park for an opportunity to see different wildlife species and birdlife. Some of the species you might encounter include zebras, impalas, buffaloes, warthogs, topi, eland, and other antelope species. The Park is also particularly known for its zebra and impala populations and has rich birdlife.

After the game drive, return to the lodge, refresh, and embark on a transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where your next adventure awaits.

You will travel through the beautiful countryside of southwestern Uganda. The journey provides a dramatic change in scenery as the open savannah around Lake Mburo gradually gives way to rolling hills, cultivated landscapes and the greener highlands of southwestern Uganda.

Arrive at Bwindi in the late afternoon and proceed to your booked safari lodge.

Day 3: Mountain Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Cultural Experience

After an early breakfast, prepare for your mountain gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will drive to the d park headquarters/trekking point for a briefing before entering the forest. Your ranger guides will provide information about gorilla trekking procedures, safety, forest etiquette, and responsible wildlife viewing.

Once the briefing is complete, you begin your trek into the forest. The trek can vary considerably in duration depending on where the assigned gorilla family is located on that particular day. You will hike through dense vegetation, following forest trails and looking for signs of the gorillas. Along the way, your ranger will interpret the forest environment, pointing out plants, birds, insects, animal tracks, and other signs of wildlife.

You’ll later encounter the gorillas and have an opportunity to observe them as they feed, rest, groom, and interact with one another. The observation period is usually 1 hour strictly. After your time elapses, you’ll trek back to the starting point or headquarters. Return to your lodge for lunch and some well-deserved relaxation.

Later in the afternoon, you will visit a Batwa community for a cultural experience. The Batwa have a deep historical connection with the forests of southwestern Uganda. During the visit, community members can introduce you to aspects of their traditional knowledge, stories, music, dance, and crafts.

The experience provides an opportunity to understand the cultural heritage of people historically associated with the forest while also supporting community-based tourism initiatives. Later, return to your lodge for dinner and relaxation after an eventful day.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park & Afternoon Boat Cruise

After breakfast, check out and begin your journey towards Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s most diverse protected areas. The drive takes you through the scenic landscapes of southwestern Uganda, with views of rolling hills, agricultural communities, and countryside along the way.

Upon arrival in the park, proceed to your lodge for check-in and lunch.

In the afternoon, head to the Kazinga Channel for one of the most popular wildlife experiences in Queen Elizabeth National Park, on a boat cruise. The cruise takes you along the channel connecting Lake Edward and Lake George, providing a different perspective of the park’s wildlife. Expect to see hippos gathered along the water, crocodiles basking on the banks, buffaloes and other animals coming to drink, as well as a variety of waterbirds.

After the cruise, return to your lodge for dinner and relaxation.

Day 5: Morning Game Drive & Transfer to Kampala/Entebbe

Wake up early for your final wildlife experience in Uganda. After breakfast, set out for a morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The early morning offers good conditions for wildlife viewing as animals are generally more active before the heat of the day becomes intense. During the game drive, expect to encounter elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs, Uganda kobs and other wildlife.

After the game drive, begin your journey back towards Kampala or Entebbe. You will travel through the countryside, with opportunities to stop for photographs, refreshments and lunch along the way.

If your departure flight is scheduled for the evening, your driver-guide will coordinate the journey to ensure you arrive at Entebbe International Airport with adequate time to check in for your flight.

Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park is one of the smallest National Parks in Uganda, situated in southwestern Uganda in Kiruhura district. This park is known for its variety of herbivorous animals and it is also the only park in the country where one can go for wildlife viewing on the back of a horse. Despite the fact that the park does not have all of the big five animals, it has several other animals such as the Giraffe, Warthog, Hippo, Zebra, various Antelope species, Hyenas, and two of the big five, which are the Buffalo and the Leopard on a lucky day, since they tend to masquerade in trees. Lake Mburo National Park is a very special place every part of it is alive with a variety of animals and bird species, interests, and colors contains an extensive area of wetland, one of the only two such habitats to be included within a National Park in Uganda.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park 

Go for mountain gorilla trekking in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, located in southwestern Uganda 331km from Kampala, for a great gorilla safari, on the edge of the Albertine Rift Valley, at an altitude range from 1.160 m to 2.607m. This is a real tropical rainforest, spread over a series of steep ridges and valleys. It is regarded as one of the most biologically diverse forests in Africa. In the local language, “Bwindi” (from “Mubwindi”) means “dark place”, referring to the impenetrable nature of the swamp located southeast of the Park, according to legends. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is situated in southwestern Uganda in the dense rainforest of Bwindi. This area was officially gazetted in 1991 as a national park and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.

Mountain gorilla trekking safari in Uganda’s foremost tourist attractions and one of the world’s most remarkable encounters because the mountain gorillas are both rare and endangered animals. There are only 1000 individuals in the world,  with half the population residing in Uganda and the others in Virunga National Park ( the democratic republic of Congo) and Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park.

Despite the fact that Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is famous for Mountain Gorilla tracking, there are several other activities and sites to see while at the park. The forest trails lead to the scenic waterfalls and rift valley points; tourists are also given the opportunity to visit the Batwa people(pygmy) and Bakiga people living beside the forest. Bwindi Impenetrable forest is also the ideal birders’ destination because the forest is home to over 350 species, with 14 not recorded in any other national park in Uganda. These birds include the African green pigeon, African harrier hawk, cinnamon-chested bee-eater, Crowned hornbill, and several other bird species. The animals living in this park include the Mountain Gorillas, Chimpanzees, several monkey species such as the black-and-white colobus monkey, the African Elephant, and various Antelope types. Queen Elizabeth National Park

The Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s most visited national park. This park is known for its abundance of wildlife of about 95 mammal species and over 600 bird species but it’s famous for its tree-climbing lions, whose males sport black manes in an area called Ishasha in Rukungiri. This park lies on 2.056 sq. km of land situated south of the Rwenzori Mountains, bordering Congo and including two lakes, George and Edward, which are connected through the natural Kazinga Channel. It is an ecosystem made of wetland and open savannah areas, at an altitude of 910m at Lake Edward. Most tourists who come to Uganda visit more than one destination.
