June 22, 2020Rwanda Reopens Tourism for domestic and charter flight tourists
Rwanda Reopens for Tourism for both domestic and international tourists from June 17th, 2020, Come and adventure the mountain gorillas in the jungles of Volcanoes National park.
This comes after the country put tourism on halt because of the novel coronavirus outbreak, all Rwanda national parks have been closed for about 3 months now.
The government has now decided to ease the lockdown and opened up tourism to both domestic tourists. The reopening of tourism in Rwanda comes with some guidelines to be followed and a new discount for gorilla tracking permits.
Each Rwanda gorilla trekking permit has previously been sold at US$ 1500 for all tourists. However, all Rwandan nationals, as well as East African citizens, will pay US$ 200 for a gorilla permit and foreign nationals will pay US$ 500 for each permit. However, foreign nonresidents will still pay US$ 1500 for a Rwanda gorilla trekking permit.
Rwanda Development Board (RDB) announced on 17th June 2020 that all tourism activities, as well as international travel for the charter flights, will reopen effectively.
Tourists who have been allowed to visit all of the national parks including Volcanoes National Park which is home to the mountain gorillas and Akagera National Park, the major Rwanda wildlife safari park will do this under health and safety guidelines.
The Rwanda Development Board states that the tourism industry is adapting to create a safe environment for travelers and operators in order to thrive in these unprecedented times.
Some of the promotional offers that tourists can undertake at this time include the discounted gorilla trekking permit to up to US$ 200 for Rwandans and East African citizens and US$ 500 for foreign residents.
Tourists to the country on chartered flights can now travel to Rwanda and visit the popular primates. Commercial flights to the country and borders still remain closed and shall be opened when the lockdown is lifted.
Safety Guidelines to be followed
To maintain the safety measures, domestic tourists opting to visit Nyungwe Forest National Park and Volcanoes National Park are required to have a COVID-19 test within 48 hours prior to visiting these parks.
The results should test negative for one to be allowed to visit the parks. This is because primates are much more susceptible to contracting human diseases including viruses.
For tests, a private test center has been set up at Petit Stade, Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali, by appointment only.
Tourists, traveling by charter flight are expected to test negative for Covid-19 within 72 hours prior to arrival. All tourists will take a second test prior to visiting any tourist attraction.
All visitors are required to maintain a distance of at least 10 meters at all times while visiting primates in Nyungwe Forest National Park and Volcanoes National Park.
