July 10, 2020Why you should Still Visit Rwanda in 2024
Rwanda was truly one of the most suggested places to visit in 2024. With the outbreak of the novel coronavirus world over, tourism was put at a standstill in Rwanda inclusive.
Rwanda closed all national parks for nearly three months, however, in June the parks were opened to both domestic and international tourists arriving on charter flights.
Discounted gorilla permits & safari packages – Why you should Still Visit Rwanda in 2024
Rwanda recently discounted the cost of gorilla trekking permits amidst COVID-19. The discount was for foreign residents in Rwanda and East African citizens living in Rwanda.
Rwandan nationals, as well as East African citizens, will pay US$ 200 for a gorilla permit and foreign nationals will pay US$ 500 for each permit, a huge discount from the US$ 1500 previously paid by all tourists.
For those who qualify for discounted gorilla permits, this is the best opportunity as this is the only country open for gorilla tours currently and with easy trekking trails than any other.
However, foreign nonresidents will still pay US$ 1500 for a Rwanda gorilla trekking permit. Only charter flight tourists are allowed for now, but soon commercial flights will be allowed to the country. It is the only park open for gorilla trekking now, therefore take advantage.
Other wildlife safari packages are also on discount especially for tourists traveling as families and groups.

Accessibility – why you should still visit Rwanda in 2024
Volcanoes National Park, the only gorilla habitat in Rwanda is the most accessible gorilla safari park from an international airport-Kigali International Airport. It is just about 2 hours’ drive from the airport to the park unlike the parks in Uganda and Congo that are about 6-10 hours’ drive from the international airport.
The few hours spent on the transfer drive from the airport to the park make it easier to reach the park in a few hours, therefore, having shorter and affordable Gorilla trekking tours. Other national parks are equally near the international airport and can be accessed for all other activities in the country.

Strict Safety measures
Rwanda set up very strict safety measures to help control the spread of the novel coronavirus. To maintain the safety measures, domestic tourists opting to visit Nyungwe Forest National Park and Volcanoes National Park are required to have a COVID-19 test within 48 hours prior to visiting these parks.
The results should test negative for one to be allowed to visit the parks. This is because primates are much more susceptible to contracting human diseases including viruses. For tests, a private test center has been set up at Petit Stade, Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali, by appointment only.
Tourists, traveling by charter flight are expected to test negative for Covid-19 within 72 hours prior to arrival. All tourists will take a second test prior to visiting any tourist attraction.
All visitors are required to maintain a distance of at least 10 meters at all times while visiting primates in Nyungwe Forest National Park and Volcanoes National Park.
