Chimpanzee Tracking Safari to Ngamba Islands Uganda Tour; Ngamba Islands is part of the Koome group of islands located on Lake Victoria 23km south of Entebbe, Uganda. It consists of approximately 100 acres,98 of which are forested for the chimpanzees and separated from the visitor’s area by an electric fence. Ngamba Islands officially opened to visitors in 1999 currently it is home to 52 orphaned chimpanzees.

You can view any or both of the two -daytime chimpanzee feedings from the visitor’s platform, and enjoy unlimited use of the other island facilities. Optional activities include opportunities to observe the island’s 154 recorded birds. You can also view a local fishing village, a sunset cruise, or simply relax at your tent private deck enjoying a memorable African sunset. The forest walk experience gives you an opportunity to join a group of infant chimpanzees on a one-hour walk through their forest habitat. this can be done either in the late afternoon or early morning.
Caregiver program on Ngamba Islands – Chimpanzee Tracking Safari
This is a unique program where visitors get the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a chimpanzee caregiver by being caregivers themselves! As a chimp caregiver, you will participate in preparing their food and feeding them. You can assist the staff with any activities happening at the sanctuary that day. These may include; medical checkups, research, and monitoring, preparing the holding areas for the chimps, and other activities. The staff will work with you to show you what is involved in taking care of these animals.
Other Activities
There are several other activities that you can embark on during your Chimpanzee Tracking Safari to Ngamba Islands Uganda Tour. The forest walk and caregiver activities may only be done as an addition to the Ngamba Island overnight experience and have age restrictions and special medical requirements that need to be adhered to. For those who wish to have an overnight experience, accommodation on the Island comprises just 4 tents. All en suite, on wooden platforms with private tent decks overlooking Lake Victoria.
Conservation at Ngamba
The camp is built with strict guidelines of CSWCT with care to fragile nature of the environment, lighting is solar. Each tent has a splendid view of the lake and is well-appointed, featuring a bush shower and eco-toilet. Meals are substantial with several tasty courses for dinner and local specialties such as fresh fish from the lake when possible, beverages and cold drinks are available at all times. BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, 331 km, is located in South Western Uganda, on the edge of the Albertine Rift Valley, at an altitude range from 1.160 m to 2.607m. This is a real tropical rainforest, spread over a series of steep ridges and valleys.
It is regarded as one of the most biologically diverse forests in Africa. In the local language “Bwindi” (from “mubwindi”) means “dark place”, referring to the impenetrable nature of the swamp located southeast of the Park, according to legends. There are 11 species of primates, including chimpanzees, Hoest’s, red-tailed and blue monkeys, black and white colobus, and olive baboons. Read More…
MGAHINGA GORILLA NATIONAL PARK
Mgahinga National Park, only 38 sq.kms in size, is the Ugandan part of the bigger Virunga Conservation Area, which is a jointly protected area with Congo and Rwanda. It includes three extinct volcanoes: Mount Sabinyo (3.669 m.), Mount Gahinga (3.474 m.), and Mount Muhavura (4.127 m.). “Mgahinga” is named after Mount Gahinga plus the initial of Mount Muhavura. The vegetation is typical of Afromontane areas, with a consistent bamboo forest. There are 76 mammal species recorded, including buffaloes, elephants, bushbucks, golden monkeys, and leopards. 115 bird species have been recorded, including Rwenzori turaco, crowned hornbill, black kite, and crowned crane.
