By the end of 2020, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) set discounted prices for trips from December 2020 to March 2021. The discounts were especially for gorilla permits and chimpanzee trekking permits with a few discounts for wildlife park entries.
Gorilla permit discounts – 2021 Discounted Uganda Safari Packages: For Gorilla trekking permits, there is a reduction in the cost of the gorilla permit as follows. East African Community citizen gorilla tracking permits reduced from UGX 250,000 to UGX 150,000.
Foreign Resident gorilla tracking permits reduced from USD 600 to USD 300. Foreign nonresident gorilla tracking permits reduced from USD 700 to USD 400.
Gorilla trekking is for sure a top Uganda safari activity for many travelers seeking a primate tracking experience just like no other. Uganda, which is home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas has two national parks with these elusive apes.
However, to have an encounter with these gentle giants, tourists have to undertake gorilla trekking which can only happen when one has purchased a gorilla permit prior to the trek.
In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, you can book a gorilla trekking permit in one of the 4 gorilla trekking sectors which are named Ruhija, Rushaga, Buhoma, and Nkuringo.
Each of these sectors has several habituated gorilla families that are open to gorilla trekking by tourists on Uganda safaris. A sector is allocated on your preference during booking or depending on availability when you need to trek.
For Mgahinga National Park, there is a single gorilla family known as the Nyakagezi gorilla family which is one of the best families to trek on safari. To book for a trekking permit in Mgahinga you can book through your tour operator.
Chimpanzee tracking permit discount – 2021 Discounted Uganda Safari Packages: Chimpanzee tracking in Uganda’s chimp habitats was also discounted as follows. East African Community resident chimpanzee tracking permits reduced from UGX. 150,000 to UGX. 100,000.
Foreign Resident chimpanzee tracking permits reduced from USD 150 to USD 100. Foreign Non-Resident chimpanzee tracking permits reduced from USD 200 to USD 150.
One of the most interesting primates to trek while on safaris in Uganda is the Chimpanzees. Chimpanzee trekking in Uganda is almost the second popular tracking activity after gorilla trekking.
Uganda has a high population of chimpanzees with close to 5000 of them in the county most of them in their natural habitats. The chimpanzee trekking spots include Kibale Forest National Park, Budongo Forest, Kyambura Gorge, and Kalinzu Forest.
Park entrance discounts: For wildlife tour destinations, there is a 50% discount for the park entrance for destinations including Lake Mburo National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kidepo Valley National Park, Murchison Falls National Park, Semuliki National Park.
Wildlife reserves such as Toro Semuliki Wildlife Reserve, Katonga Wildlife Reserve, Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve, and Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve also have a 50% discount for entrance.
Birding fees discount – 2021 Discounted Uganda Safari Packages: Bird watching fees are also at a discount of 50% in all the bird-watching spots in Uganda. Bird watching Uganda is one of the popular activities that tourists from all of the world enjoy be it avid birders or just those interested in twitching.

No reschedules will be allowed for these promotional permits beyond the promotional period, therefore all the promotional permits have to be used within the promotional period.
