Mountain Elgon is an amazing feature found in the East of Uganda and also shared with Kenya at the borders, it’s said to be the fourth highest mountain in East Africa standing at 4,321m high above sea level, and it’s an extinct Volcano with the main activity of hiking.

Mountain Elgon is slightly tricky to climb to the top (Wagagai peak), and hence hikers are expected to be physically fit enough. Mountain Elgon has a number of hiking trails that mountain hikers use to trek up the top.

The mountain is also home to the captivating Sipi falls, gorges, hot springs, caves, also different animal species like the African elephants, forest monkeys, small antelopes, cape buffaloes as well as about 300 bird species. Remember that a complete circuit of hiking takes around 4 to 5 days.

Day 1 of the 3 Days Mount Elgon Hiking Safari: Transfer from Kampala to Mbale

Acacia Safaris Limited company representative will have pick you up from Kampala after breakfast, after briefing he will drive you to the east along Kampala-Jinja highway via a number of districts such as Mukono, Jinja, Iganga, and Namutumba.

As you proceed on your trip, you will see great sceneries including the Mabira rainforest, tea and sugarcane plantations in Lugazi and Kakira, Lake Victoria(the Largest freshwater lake in Africa), River Nile at the Owen falls dam, Jinja city among others.

Later you will reach Mbale town and have lunch at the Lodge. In the evening after relaxation, continue to visit Sipi falls and neighboring areas that is if you are still on time.

Day 2 of the 3 Days Mount Elgon Hiking Safari: Go Hiking Mountain Elgon

Wake up early in the morning for breakfast, after setting out with a packed lunch for the mountain hiking activity. Meet the park rangers at the Headquarters who will brief you about the activity and are ready to guide you through the hiking trails in the mountains.

There will be porters who will help carry your luggage just in case it’s heavy. You will start with any hiking trail such as Kapkwai, Kapkwata, or Budadiri Forest exploration center. During the hike, you will have a great adventurous time. Later, return back to the hotel in the evening for dinner and Overnight

Day 3 of the 3 Days Mount Elgon Hiking Safari: Return to Kampala

Wake up at ease for breakfast at the lodge and start your journey to Kampala for departure. On your way back to the city, you will have a stop-over in Jinja town to adventure the Source of the Nile and Lunch.

You proceed to Bujagali falls, or Masese fish landing site according to your interests. A boat ride at the river Nile to the source of the river. After the adventures in Jinja, you drive back to Kampala to end the tour.
